The @IraGame team should be careful about getting themselves into an Epic Exclusive deal though, since that is the only thing Epic seemingly wants. (DarQ situation) Why should they be careful? Cause their kickstarter promised Steam-keys. Unfortunately a recipe for backlash. O_o

We'd absolutely hear @EpicGames / @TimSweeneyEpic out if they were interested in having Ira. We'd love to be part of the Epic store. Point taken though. We'd have to weigh out the pros and cons just like any other developer.

Going Epic Exclusive is an understandable choice for developers (and can be accepted by gamers for the right reasons), but devs do need to be careful with previously promised Steam Keys. The past has showed that 'that' can be quite the spark for outrage. :c

Yes, that absolutely is the case. Of course this is all hypothetical, but, if @EpicGames offered us a deal that would support our studio then it would be difficult to say no. We love #UE4 as it's made @IraGame possible. It all depends on what type of partnerships we can get.

Thanks. Let’s keep in mind that the Steam key issue with crowd funded games is an unfortunate side effect of kickstarters launched before the Epic Games store’s strategy was known running up against Valve’s new policy preventing Steam key distribution to backers of exclusives.

"Valve’s new policy preventing Steam key distribution to backers of exclusives." Admittedly I'm a little out of the loop on this. Are you saying that Epic isn't preventing games from releasing on Steam that have exclusives, but, rather Valve not honoring promised keys?

On crowd funded Epic-exclusive games, we would gladly support partners distributing Steam keys to backers. However, Valve has privately told partners they can’t distribute Steam keys to backers until or unless they offer their game publicly for sale on Steam.

Again, you shift the blame to Valve. Their "new" policy is perfectly understandable in context of your predatory exclusives tactics. Why in the world they should give keys for games that is exclusively sold on a competing platform?

I think it would be a good investment in the health of the game development ecosystem for Valve to unbundle services like Steamworks friends and Steam key redistribution from their Steam store distribution agreements and the 30% tax.

Read this https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/blog/epic-2019-cross-platform-online-services-roadmap … and then realize that Steam could literally sell games that could be using any of those services from Epic, and Epic wouldn't get paid for those. Epic isn't asking Valve to do anything that they are not willing to do themselves.

Epic supports this principle by making the Unreal Engine, Epic Online Services, and Epic Games store available for developers to mix and match with components and services from other vendors however they see fit. Unity does the same.

Let me ask a question Tim. Why is the revenue split always referred to as a "tax" by you when it's Valve in question?

There are many things there. - Splitting services so that it could be more granular for devs/publisher, why not. - Splitting the ky redistribution from Steam is stupid, you redeem a game on Steam so the game must be available on Steam.

How could you unbundle key redistribution from distribution agreement? Key is just registration of game on platform, game build have to be released (maybe not public) on platform to be distributed, so there have to be distribution agreement ;-)

If your so concerned about game development why dont you just give that fortnite money to devs with no exclusivity strings attached. And dont link me the BS fake PR dribble about "Epic Mega Grants" I said NO STRINGS attached.
