The store wars trace back to 2016, when now-former Microsoft execs sought to follow iOS's closed platform model. Now it's 2019 and Windows is more open than ever, while Epic's shaking things up with an 88%/12% split and exclusives, and GOG is connecting ecosystems. Hello, parody version of me. I don’t believe there is a contradiction. One case is an operating system vendor blocking competing stores from running. The other is a store working with willing developers and publishers on a mutually beneficial exclusive relationship.

Hello, real version of me. Ok, jokes aside, i would like to know on your take over how epic's approach is essentially different to 2016's Microsoft with limiting access to (in this case) games through a certain platform for the end user. If possible short-term and long term. 1/2

Blocking other stores from running prevents economic competition among stores, forcing all developers and publishers on the platform to accept whatever term the monopoly store offers, and eliminating any benefits to suppliers and consumers that arise through store competition.

That's EXACTLY what you are doing. You are actively damaging other stores like GOG by pulling games slated to release there. YOU force devs like Unfold Games to accept your exclusivity deal or not do business with them at all. 1/2

You give no benefit to people who want to buy games, in fact you worsen the customer experience with much fewer features than the competition. 2/2

Whereas the range of Epic Games store efforts *are* economic competition, providing developers and publishers a better share (88%), a means to ensure they gain that share on all revenue (exclusivity), free games for users, and new product funding means for developers.

@EpicGames your 12% is fine and we all support it but not your "exclusives". The consumer wants to choose where to buy AAA/indie titles and not to be forced.
