your 88/12 spilt arguement is null in void thanks to epic exclusives on green man gaming

Relationships with key sellers are up to partners (2K in this case) rather than Epic. We’re not privy to their deal terms, but I don’t see why anyone would assume the skilled negotiators at 2K would accept a 70/30 split from a key seller when they’re receiving 88% from Epic!

And a barebones store and a company that can’t meet deadlines. Oh, and discord offers a better profit cut so this will all die when Epic stops buying up exclusives. What a chump.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind seeing the store grow. Competition is always healthy, and choice is great for consumers. The exclusives though. That... ruins everything I just said. They’re competing aggressively rather than productively in my opinion, and it’s going downhill fast.

30% take for distribution is pretty outrageous when you think about it. Epic Store bringing competition is just about the best thing that could happen for indie devs on that front.
-
Better for indie devs. Tell that to the indie devs who refused epics deal but still wanted to sell their game on epic and epic refused them. This is called not helping indie devs.

Isn’t the platform owner ultimately going to win any store war though - either by force (ms past) or by convenience (ms future)
-
Perhaps! But the history of the Windows Store shows it’s not inevitable, and the browser race shows that even if a platform maker attains dominance, they can still lose it to a competitor with a better product.

Can't meet deadlines. Seems that you already adopted one of Steam's greatest features called Valve Time.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

The store wars trace back to long before then, when Steam and GOG were competing with convenience vs DRM-free, and there were also a bunch of small stores. Now, it's the same, but with Epic doing 88/12 and using fortnite money to get exclusives on a feature-barren "store".

Well said.
