Microsoft ditching UWP for Gears 5. It’ll be win32 for Steam and Windows Store. Another sign UWP is dead, but do please tell me how it’s alivehttps://twitter.com/OctusTC/status/1165542113850716160 …

The idea of UWP as a more sandboxed API for safer app distribution was sound. But it was too lacking compared to win32 APIs which expose the full power of the OS and its kernel features, which many Windows games and applications use to its fullest.

Is it still lacking?

Out of curiosity, has Epic looked into the possibility of distributing appx packages from its store?
-
Looked at this a while back. Installing appx packages is even easier than win32, but it’s not a priority for the store because games are predominantly win32.

Not really, you have been always able to sideload UWP apps since day1
-
Not day one of MS store though. 8 didn't even have options for enterprise app sideloading and 8.1 barely met that need. 10 didn't have support for auto updating third party sourced apps until the last year or two, but does now.

Gee I wonder what shady hypocritical company does this now. Stopping apps/games from running on other store fronts.
