"We want competition" *Competition arrives* "No not that!" *Deaths threats against developers*

The developers aren't the competition, though. Some random indie dev team isn't competing with Valve. Valve needs competition that is ethical, otherwise Valve will learn that becoming less ethical is an effective strategy. It's consumers & devs vs. publishers & storefronts.

"Ethical competition."

One problem with that meandering diatribe...Valve and CD Projekt have 1 thing that is increasingly rare these days...Integrity.

The games industry is just as rife with shady shit as any, but if an indie dev can get a cash injection to finish their passion project in exchage for limited exclusivity, I would hardly call it unethical.

The entire conversation over revenue split is full of shit. Valve charges 0% on any keys sold outside of Steam and requires nothing in regards to exclusives or key generation. Nobody ever mentions that...doesnt fit the narrative of the gigantic hypocrite

That’s true, and Epic also charges 0% for Epic Games store game keys sold through other stores, and 0% for games sold through Humble’s new direct purchasing integration.

Little question about this new integration because I know that I will at a moment of another having an EGS games. Will be there an option to just ask a Steam key instead of EGS key if the exclusivity deal is over ?

Developers and publishers are free to sell non-exclusive games through Humble as Steam keys, as Epic Games store direct purchases, or support both.

Humble EGS direct purchases are keyless and remove the ability to resell, trade or gift the license to other users. This should be the worst option of all.

You can still gift games this system. The grey market is far more damaging than what ever ability to resell/trade benefit has on the industry. Hopefully in the future game keys can be a thing of the past and get rid of the grey market.
