Many developers were interested in many different types of partnership arrangements. Ultimately we selected titles that the store team felt were the best fit based on lots of factors, including willingness to launch exclusively.

Exclusivity opens up a lot of possibilities for launch partnerships that don't make sense otherwise. For example, with an exclusive, Epic can invest very significantly in marketing a new indie game, knowing that all the benefits accrue to the developer and the Epic Games store.

The reason you gave for refusing DARQ after offering exclusivity has now swayed me to never download or use the epic game store even though I have a lot of respect for Epic's past. No disrespect meant just my opinion.
