Hi Mark, we’re still in the early, hand-curated days of the Epic Games store where we can only accommodate a small number of releases. See the launch announcement:https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/blog/announcing-the-epic-games-store …

We priorize a small number of games that bring unique value in some way, such as exclusive games, major releases, and key indie titles. Right now we can only accommodate about 10% of the games that developers would like to release on the store, and each criteria adds weight.

Fortnite makes more money in a day than most indie games will earn in their lifetime. You can afford to do this, you just don't want to.

The pace at which we can release new games is limited by the size of the store team and tech team at Epic, which are growing as fast as we’re able to onboard new developers. The store team has more than doubled since launch, but that’s not enough for 100’s of releases yet.

Curious the economics of scale are going to come into play. As EGS grows you will need a greater number of devs, customer support, and infrastructure. Do you believe your 15/85 split is sustainable long term or is this a stop gap until you can obtain greater market acceptance?

88/12 is the Epic Games store’s permanent revenue sharing rate. We can operate at a profit on each transaction at this rate, and the economies of scale will continue to improve as we optimize. This rate actually preceded the store; see:https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/blog/epic-announces-unreal-engine-marketplace-88-12-revenue-share …

Then why won't you let indie developers put games on your store if they won't sign an exclusivity deal? If your store is so superior that it'll make people want to sign up, why are you so afraid of them having the option to put it elsewhere?

My apology for the misquote. I understand infrastructure optimization and flatting of the customer support but, growth of game size isn't on a linear slope. There are many empirical examples of digital distribution being overwhelmed by large scale releases.

He's obviously only doing this with smaller indie titles. AAA titles can get on the Epic Store and be non-exclusive because he knows they can't afford not to have them.

Excellent move that the developers would appreciate, we must not forget the $ 100 million of the Epic MegaGrants, a very important incentive for those who develop projects with #UE4 😀https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/megagrants …

He's playing the "88/12 Revenue Share" card again. But he won't put a game in their store if they don't buy in to his exclusivity bullshit. Fucking Timmy Tencent at it again.

He has a specific goal of changing the PC industry away from the 70/30 standard, and exclusive play a big role in that. Allowing a small game as non exclusive when they can only do about 10% of games wanting to be on Epic, is a hindrance to that goal.
