The problem with JSON and XML based file formats is the tendency to require further parsing to decode values from strings. A universal interchange file format would have the ability to express all common data types through the composition of atomic values and containers.

Alright, so launch the project. Much like Google's protobuf and flatbuffer libraries, put together the basic framework/spec as an open project and let people contribute. No point just *talking* about it right?

A self consistent standard aware of its predecessors gave us JSON, if you want to do better you're going to need more than meta headers and what you assume is atomic rep , because even json could technically give you that
