Correct. And before the comparison to Origin and Uplay, the difference is their exclusives are limited to their own products. They don't actively go out looking to steal products to monopolize.

Exactly! I already have EGS on my PC because of Fortnite BR. HP's drivers and other nonsense are far more invasive (tho EGS still has issues) than anything else distributed by a legitimate company, so half the internet can STFU about Chinese spyware.

Epic products only send Steam friends data to Epic if you explicitly choose to import your Steam friends in the user interface. This has always been the case.

The file is imported and hashed ids of friends are sent to Epic only when you explicitly import Steam friends. Epic recognizes Steam friend connections only when both you and your friend do the import. So, new friend recommendations may arrive over time as your friends import.

So in short, EGS parse the file to make hashes for each friends and send to EGS server. If me and my friend know each other hashes we are matched as friend on EGS.

But it's strange, because it mean that if we are on EGS and having already sync our friends we cannot more sync ourselves. At least it would have a resync button or a better use of provided API to check about new friends. Would it not be a better method ?
