As I’ve said many times, console hardware often sells around or below manufacturing costs and the hardware+marketing+stewardship costs are clearly subsidized by software sales, so their business model isn’t comparable to a pure store.

Steam takes the 30% to support their games, store, modding for the community workshop, and multiple other's. Does Epic do that? No. Get that through your head Tim. Please.

One would need an honest breakdown of the costs of providing those services in order to draw that conclusion.

My current breakdown of the cost of digital distribution is roughly: payment processing for predominant payment methods: 2.5-3.5%; customer service 1.5%; bandwidth and hosting 1%.

It’s true that some regions have significantly higher payment processing costs. Perhaps 30% store fees are perfectly reasonable in Sri Lanka. But they certainly aren’t reasonable in major economies where the payment processing costs are 2.5-3.5%.

Other services like forums and wishlists take time to develop (Steam has a 15 year head start) but don’t carry significant operating costs. Perhaps a fraction of 1% in total, not 18%.

You guys keep changing the topic to this feature or that feature, but the fundamental issue at stake should be acknowledged: 30% fees represent an enormous markup on the cost of operating a digital store in most of the game-buying world. A 300% or 500% markup of costs.

That's business talk for you and your publishers and developers, all we can see is same prices, less features. The game industry cries about store cuts, but then you have games costing 80 to 120 usd + surprise mechanics The only ones that deserve some slack are indie devs

And in that group there's black sheeps that slap their customers across the face with some decisions that only prove that everything they are doing is about money not delivering a proper product. If the industry thinks so little about us why'd we care that much about store cuts

and you're doing this by stealing the chance of competitors to sell the same products, i see, so you throw tantrums and cry for foul play on revenue when yourself can't throw a healthy & fair competition. ._.

This issue saying "30% fees is huge" is that you not clearly state what you have for 30%. It can be an issue, it will maybe need to change but it begin first by making true statements. There are already video that explain it enough that it's not that huge...

You do realise that to the end users it is the features that matter the most? An ethical but feature-lite gaming client may as well be an ethical email client. Does all the right things, but not fit for gaming.

You know I realized that valve can't just change there revenue split like that. You started your split at 12 and expect valve to do the same. If valve did that, Steam would lose a lot of its features, but would still have more features than yours.
