The developer announced the exclusive forthrightly, as all of the Epic Games store exclusives have been announced. It’s true that they didn’t announce it before their announcement, but that’s a long way from lying!

It is deceitful then when users were concerned two weeks prior about this exact thing to then tell them "No it's fine do not worry, it's merely a site update." Whatever their intent, their actions come off as I stated, as deceitful.

As I stated, it's best if developers don't do this in my opinion for Epic moreso than PGI or MW5, because the users will be much quicker to draw their anger on Epic rather than the developer, and I do hope that you can try and influence developers not to repeat mistakes like this

How would you phrase a better response to that question, without pre-announcing the exclusivity announcement? In general, this is a question every company has to grapple with when questioned about plans they aren’t yet ready to announce.

I'd be as blunt as possible, because if the users are onto it you might as well state it, because keeping it under wraps just caused much bigger backlash. With a niche audience like MW5 it's just going to hurt more in the end if you try to dodge the questions and avoid them

There isn't a way to dodge an announcement, if I was in their position and I had solidified the Epic deal, I would just state it plain as day. Yes, there'd be backlash, but it would be a hell of a lot less compared to the current situation with how PGI handled it

Hmm. If all developers were forced to announce their plans whenever asked or whenever they’re made, wouldn’t they continually be put on the spot and lose control over the timing and venue of their announcements?

This specific topic, the Epic exclusivity, is currently a massive sore spot for a massive amount of users. It is best to just announce it as soon as you can(especially when you are taking pre-orders), so that whatever goodwill you 'have', you retain.

People understand the need for funds, games are expensive endeavors 'especially' niche titles like Mechwarrior 5, but being honest with the community on questions such as this is important to keep the goodwill of the people and keep their trust.

The more obfuscating people put up around the question, the more they dodge it, the larger the backlash will be in the end. In the end, honesty is the best policy, it's best to be up-front about it.

If they are all good points, why don't you follow them? - What's the reason for going for an exclusive when they already have a public facing representation in other stores - Why only bring a exclusivity deal to public once there is a late trailer a EGS logo there.

          Replying to @cosporcos @TimSweeneyEpic and

those are the 2 main reasons for most of the backlash, metro exodus and shenmue suffered some awful backlash for it, why make them go through that if going forward and telling the prospect players as soon as you reach a deal would help for a smooth transition.

This may be late, and this may be at this point repeating talking points, but SidAlpha's recent video covering the issue with MW5 - https://youtu.be/rp_eocF-Dqc  is probably the best way to understand what I was talking about and trying to get across, for the record.

This is why I feel it is best for developers to be honest, and straight up about deals, because as is pointed out in the video, he states deal was finished in April, they knew this would happen, when FAQ SNAFU happened, they should have merely stated it openly and dealt with it.
