Please stop trying to normalize anti-cosumer practices like 3rd party exclusivity and the deliberate attempts to move flocks of pc gamers to a drastically inferior pc gaming digital platform without any benefits in the short or even long term.

It's so blatant that even Mr. @TimSweeneyEpic is making fun of consumer demands like shopping carts and shrugging it off via tweets, same for other features that were promised at least two months ago.

Even if Epic clarifies day and night they're not trying to monopolize sales, then where does their policy lead? It's also mind boggling how Epic Games is trying to fragment this market, then the next day Sweeney congratulates GOG for 1/3 of Cyberpunk 2077 preorders being on it.

The ultimate goal is lots of stores and platforms competing for customers, interoperability between all of them, and great revenue sharing terms for developers. The things GOG and Epic are each working on independently are all pieces of this puzzle.

How will there be competition when exclusives effectively "negate" all competition for other stores which get games 6-12 months after release? How can X store get customers while games are locked to one platform to begin with?

Even if stores adjust revenue splits, all there will be is an endless fight for exclusives and this market turning into numerous walled gardens.

Store exclusivity of these games isn’t locking them into any ecosystem. For example, Dauntless and Fortnite are fully interoperable across all 3 and 7 supported platforms, purchases of Ubisoft games on Epic are recognized on UPlay, and lots more is in the works.

I don't understand why you brought Fortnite and Dauntless to this discussion to begin with that I have to ask... why should I precise "to an esteemed CEO" that all this storm on the internet is about 3rd party exclusives? Isn't it obvious enough?

Understood. My view on first versus third party exclusives is that the same principles apply to both. What one big company like EA or Activision can do with their own games, groups of smaller companies can equally do together as partners. This is what our store is all about.

This is getting to be a closed circle, because we'll again have to say that devs do NOT take that decision, your company forces them, directly or indirectly, by way of money. So no, devs and pubs of 3rd party games don't "really" make that decision.https://www.pcgamer.com/phoenix-points-epic-store-exclusivity-deal-is-worth-dollar225-million-says-fig-investor/ …

“Forcing by way of money” isn’t a fair description of a partnership that companies willingly enter into for their mutual benefit.

I will reiterate my simple question, if you want to actually help developers, will you instead help them self-publish and fund their endeavors that way, ditching publishers like 2k/Take Two, EA and others

About half of our Epic Games store partnerships are already with developers rather than publishers. Though the early announced ones are mostly games near completion, we’re making a lot of early developer-funding partnerships now. That’s in addition tohttps://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/megagrants …

"forcing by way of money" isn't a fair description if you put it that way because you left out the main reason to be perceived in that way. You force by offering a number bigger than the developer / publisher willpower for a ethical stance against trowing customers under the bus

When their ethical threshold is weak, they won't look good on the family photo either obviously. Obviously as an head start getting 43k individual purchases worth compared to 10k supporters / customers (worst case scenario loss, obviously far less) i'd sacrifice the cattle too.

We call it forced because it might be beneficial for companies, but it's not beneficial for consumers And anything that doesn't benefit us should NOT concern us at all, isn't that right?

Maybe an unfair description for you but it's a reality. What company risks its brand getting destroyed and its image shunned by all manners of critics for free? The (10s) millions facilitates those deals! Consumer choice and the pc games market openness is meanwhile threatened.

You call it "funding exclusives", but it's really just a disruptive, monopolistic move to hog games and keep them away from the competition by the force of heavily monetized deals in favor of devs and pubs.
