I usually have a lot of time for this writer but this is a very silly article. Epic's goal isn't to drive anyone out of business, and they have been quite open about their strategy. The PC games market is big enough to support more than one store.https://www.vg247.com/2019/07/09/epic-games-wants-pc-games-market-to-itself/ …

I don't understand why you brought Fortnite and Dauntless to this discussion to begin with that I have to ask... why should I precise "to an esteemed CEO" that all this storm on the internet is about 3rd party exclusives? Isn't it obvious enough?
-
Understood. My view on first versus third party exclusives is that the same principles apply to both. What one big company like EA or Activision can do with their own games, groups of smaller companies can equally do together as partners. This is what our store is all about.

It IS an ecosystem if we're forced to use an exclusive store to get it. Are you going to say iPhones and androids don't have seperate ecosystems because fortnite can be played on both?

Purchases on Steam of ubisoft games are recognized on Uplay too, however Uplay ditched steam not because the revenue but because more people would use Uplay insted of Epic, that said and proved by The division 2 outselling epic store and other games on Uplay after this.

store exclusivity is locking those games into only epic, for the mentioned region lock, payment methods and other features that benefit consumers, it's not "just one more icon", it really kills how a game could reach more audience

for instance, my personal experience is lending a cc to a friend and being blocked on epic for some reason, having extra fees on purchases because not regional pricing and all that i can avoid by buying a steam gift card or trusted third party stores

despite me needing steam to activate it or just having to download the game from humble bundle for instance, i still can see the forums of the game to receive tech support from devs or even users, and instant refund if i need/want, without slow support response

Store Exclusivity is locking games out of a bunch of features that people like my self use alot. It´s funny you talk about Ubisoft because when the deal with Epic happened the first thing they did was to remove they games from 3rd party key sellers...
-
and with that removing the ability of a number of people to acquire the game altogether.

I think we're talking about PC here, and especially about third party games... I don't know if I should include that in any reply if it's not so obvious at this point. 3rd party is what we're mainly talking about here, but you have a point about Ubisoft, and that explains-

How if it's not starving off the entire market and locking most notable releases to your store, then it's to attack and starve off the direct competitor: Steam. Proof being accepting the release of games on stores that have a 70/30 revenue split like UWP-
