There’s another complicating factor: many of those features are tied to Steam and only work for games run through the Steam client, so no multi-store support (except through Steam key sales), no PC/console/mobile cross-platform support, etc.

For example, Fortnite supports Facebook and Google login, and PayPal payments. But Epic doesn’t have access to your private account details or credit card. Rather, we open up a web browser window so Facebook can enable you to log in, PayPal can offer to make a payment, etc.

Doesn't help when your Epic Account security is so lax you can easily lose your account within twenty-four hours of creating it.

The problem raised there is sale of users personal information. If you knew that you'd realize the enormous security risks posed by such systems. They're a double-edged sword. Look at the recent controversy with Facebook allowing certain 'devs' to access nearly all user info.
