Because that would allow backers to escape Epic by freeing the rewards they are owed from the hostage situation of only being delivered by Epic keys, and Timmy doesn't like that. Why do you think he's trying so hard to make it seem like giving Steam keys NOW is the only option?

Epic would be 100% supportive of developers who wanted to do that.

Why do I have a hard time believing this... When looking back at all the games that were offering Steam keys in the past only to be bait switch with Epic keys, because they took your "exclusivity deal" just something to consider, since that's what has been happening eversince 1/2

If I'm not mistaken, I remember seeing your policy prohibits them from selling on other PC platforms, as well prohibits them from selling by 3rd party retailers, until recently you only "allowed them" to sell on 3rd party retailers that you "chosen", and have to be for Epic. 2/2

Our exclusivity arrangements seek an exclusive on new sales for a period of time. We’re always happy to support partners delivering previously sold or committed copies (through prior pre-sales or crowfunding) through existing channels.

So I can trust that the announcement next week includes a solution so that we backers (including backers of the physical PC version such as me, not just the digital one) can get the Steam version we were expecting and that was promised to us via the Fangamer survey?pic.twitter.com/muqaKjtRb7

As far as we and our partners can determine, Valve policy prohibits providing Steam keys for games that aren’t going to be available at launch on Steam. This would make it impossible to deliver Steam keys for a game releasing exclusively on Epic at launch.

Yeah I don't see anywhere in their policy that it says that. Can you at least give the sentence you saw that in? Otherwise, this is another case of you lying to ppl again. Remember when you said that Metro Exodus thing was just going to be a one time thing?

I didn’t say that. Here’s what Steam’s policy says. See the “crowdfunding” section in particular, as well as the catch-all “Valve reserves the right to reject key requests.” https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/keys …

According to multiple articles, the policy that Valve may reject key requests was due to a rise in fraud where some developers would request an abnormal amount of keys for their games. The rejection would only happen if the request seemed fraudulent.pic.twitter.com/G3A8Wikw5L

The stated policy isn’t limited to fraud. Then there’s also “We reserve the right to deny requests for keys or revoke key requesting privileges for partners that are abusing them or disadvantaging Steam customers”. What does that mean? You can’t sell keys cheaper elsewhere?

Of course Valve has every right to set its policy for keys. But all of these posts saying developers can do whatever they want with keys and keep 100% are misleading, as they key requests can be denied for any reason or no reason.

What I don't understand is how the situation with Shenmue III is different from Metro Exodus, where Steam keys were still granted to those who pre-ordered it there, despite it being a one year exclusive on the Epic store.pic.twitter.com/FFnknOH6od
