Here’s a tweet storm on the topic of “Why Exclusives”?https://twitter.com/TimSweeneyEpic/status/1143669644877815810 …

We believe the lock-in effect of having a large library of games on a dominant storefront is more powerful than features, and hence a dominant store can only be challenged through exclusives. Here’s an article where Bill Gates explores a similar topic:https://www.theverge.com/2019/6/24/18715202/microsoft-bill-gates-android-biggest-mistake-interview …

Ah I see so instead of Steam being the dominant store. You want to be the dominant store? While I agree that makes perfect sense as a good business decision. That's just trading one devil for another. Seems rather pointless. I have 1,793 games on Steam. Why would I move to EGS?

So where’s the shopping cart? I’ll love to buy lots of games from your Launcher at once but I’m afraid I’ll get suspended for “fraudulent purchases”. And where’s the customer reviews? That’s one thing I like about Steam. True, it’s flawed but it’s getting better.

Matching steam features day one, mass marketing, epic exclusive cosmetic, lower price than steam, and a humble tweet to gamers to support devs is a starter. But throwing money to devs is more fun i agree.

That's the whole point: you want to install a new dominant storefront. And customers are forced to follow you like sheep with zero benefit for themselves. Sounds convincing.

That's a sorry mindset. If others thought like that we'd all still be using be using internet explorer and Yahoo.

Yeah Tim, it's as if trying to get ahead of Steam with extreme aggression after all these years of having them be pretty much the face of PC gaming in spite of their flaws and other existing storefronts is a..... "BAD IDEA" or something.
