Technically, Steam has a ton of exclusives because devs decide if they want to sell somewhere else. But for now, until another deal is found: "1" Steam has no need to strike exclusivity deals due to being a good service. Out for quite some time, with old, good games in the store.

If the Epic strategy either succeeds in building a second major storefront for PC games with an 88/12 revenue split, or even just leads other stores to significantly improve their terms, the result will be a major wave of reinvestment in game development and a lowering of costs.
-
Will the resulting 18% increase in developer and publisher revenue benefit gamers? Such gains are generally split among (1) reinvestment, (2) profit, and (3) price reduction. The more games are competing with each other, the more likely the proceeds are to go to (1) and (3).

If the 30% cut "usually" resulted in loss of entire profits, why would anyone sell their product on a store that has that fee? Have devs been operating in the red for almost 15 years now? Very disingenuous to call it a tax, by the way. Taxation implies force. No force is involved
-
What he means is that 30% is much higher than the profit that the developers make. For an example of what he means. lets say a game is $10, Valve takes 30% of that, leaving $7, and lets say after all costs are taken care of on developers side they are left with $1, 10% profit

"30% store tax usually EXCEEDS the entire PROFITS of the developer" This makes no logical financial sense. According to your sophistry, nearly every unit sold on Steam, incurs COSTS to the developer and publisher. So Steam is a video game loss-generating bankruptcy service?

-
That isn't what he is saying. For a math example. $100, Valve gets $30, developer gets less than $30 in profit. Developer gets less than Valve but does the work, and pays the most if they self funded.

Then speak with Valve about it.

That will never ever work.

Maybe invest in the store features and make it a viable option first.....
-
Exclusive rights to a game everyone wants IS a feature. Hiwever, they are doing that as well. Are they not the ones working on cross platform? Do you think Steam started out with all of their features right away? No, they've built and added to it for over a decade. Epic will too
