Whether paid or not, they still struck an exclusive deal with Valve, that deal could have been a number of things that didn't include any front/advance money at all, just like how there are a number of exclusive games on EGS that did not get front/advance money to be exclusive.

In judging whether a disruptive move like this is reasonable in gaming, I suggest considering two questions: Is the solution proportionate to the problem it addresses, and are gamers likely benefit from the end goal if it’s ultimately achieved?
-
The 30% store tax usually exceeds the entire profits of the developer who built the game that’s sold. This is a disastrous situation for developers and publishers alike, so I believe the strategy of exclusives is proportionate to the problem.

Major publisher storefronts finance their own games, so it's in their right to make a store for things they own. Your company literally pulled games from other stores and bribed them into breaking their promises.

So ignoring where he reference independent game store. That's a really broad usage of the word bribed.

It is not only unpopular with dedicated Steam gamers, rather with all gamers that are committed to an open, fair and competitive PC store marketplace.

Unfortunately the “do work” part is going to start an exclusivity battle amongst platforms, ultimately leading to more piracy. Every one loses at your expense. Hopefully developers and consumers catch on that.

TLDWR, our “ Strategy “ is to buy the right to force people to use our store, for no other reason. Not to offer a equal or better platform. Just a launcher we made to update the Minecraft mod we tout as our own

Epic offers exclusives and free games, losing money, instead of a good store, those are strategies that you can pull off because the millions and billions from Fornite, imo that's unfair competition
-
either way, i'm happy that you are promoting a launcher to unite stores
