      WAS IT PAID? No one knows, it doesn't seem like it. It's one thing to be exclusive to a store due to a developer decision, and another to be paid a deal to become exclusive.

      Whether paid or not, they still struck an exclusive deal with Valve, that deal could have been a number of things that didn't include any front/advance money at all, just like how there are a number of exclusive games on EGS that did not get front/advance money to be exclusive.

      Technically, Steam has a ton of exclusives because devs decide if they want to sell somewhere else. But for now, until another deal is found: "1" Steam has no need to strike exclusivity deals due to being a good service. Out for quite some time, with old, good games in the store.

      Yes, now and for some years Valve had no need for exclusive deals, but they did in their early days. And yes, there are other deals that were made, but I can't prove them since I only know about them due to clients I have in my datacenter that have been developers for decades.

      And honestly, the main reason I hate Epic is mainly due to exclusivity, I could care less about them if they weren't doing paid exclusivity, but YANKING games that were supposed to be released on Steam(and not bound to it, ffs @TimSweeneyEpic ) makes me hate them.

      Yes, the result is the same. The issue has nothing to do with exclusivity, it never has, the actual issue that these people have is just the games they want are not on Steam. These people would be ok with Steam exclusive games, because the games would be on Steam.

      Yes, people would be. But why not politely ask for the games to be on Epic instead of yanking them? If it was on every store possible, it'd be way better. Just ask the devs instead of yanking the games. @TimSweeneyEpic

      This question gets to the core of Epic’s strategy for competing with dominant storefronts. We believe exclusives are the only strategy that will change the 70/30 status quo at a large enough scale to permanently affect the whole game industry.

      For example, after years of great work by independent stores (excluding big publishers like EA-Activision-Ubi), none seem to have reached 5% of Steam’s scale. Nearly all have more features than Epic; and the ability to discount games is limited by various external pressures.

          This leads to the strategy of exclusives which, though unpopular with dedicated Steam gamers, do work, as established by the major publisher storefronts and by the key Epic Games store releases compared to their former Steam revenue projections and their actual console sales.

          In judging whether a disruptive move like this is reasonable in gaming, I suggest considering two questions: Is the solution proportionate to the problem it addresses, and are gamers likely benefit from the end goal if it’s ultimately achieved?

          They have more features than epic. But you are putting them against Steam in this comparison. You can't compare an apple to an orange and then say "so clearly all apples fail, because this one particular variety of orange has more juice".

          Build a better product and people will buy in. I'm more likely to accept an exclusive to GOG considering their launcher is closer to parity with Steam. The EGS is a fraction of what Steam is. Also, quit bribing devs that have already committed to Steam.

          So, by reaching a scale inferior to 5% of steam, individual stores that have more features and engage in exclusives (1st party exclusives) what leads you to think that's the way to go, how's 100% revenue from a release at 5% engagement better than 70% from a 20x bigger audience?

          If the market is so competitive, how do you gain from the better revenue if you're getting less eyeballs and less sells by restricting availability. Why not do something like cd project red, selling on all storefronts and sweetening the deal on their own store.

          The biggest BS i've ever heard. Thus is just an excuse/lie for the lack of features. No wonder ppl have been dissing Epic. Gamers are not stupid and they will not accept the cancer of third party exclusivity deals in the PC market.
