There were other options for digital distribution as well back then. Did you even read they removed the demo from thier own site as a request from Valve? There was a deal stuck to be exclusive

For example, after years of great work by independent stores (excluding big publishers like EA-Activision-Ubi), none seem to have reached 5% of Steam’s scale. Nearly all have more features than Epic; and the ability to discount games is limited by various external pressures.
-
This leads to the strategy of exclusives which, though unpopular with dedicated Steam gamers, do work, as established by the major publisher storefronts and by the key Epic Games store releases compared to their former Steam revenue projections and their actual console sales.

Gabe Newell once said “piracy is a result of bad service”. I think steam killed 90% piracy and epic store is starting to make people pirate again.
-
Pirates have been ripping games no matter what. Exclusivity deals of the EGS are just another "excuse" for them.

It unpopular with gamers in general, not just "steam" gamers. Steam keys can be sold through other means and the dev gets 100% of the profit. Benefits the gamer? Like the mess with Shenmu? How many titles actually reduced their price for Epic's store?
-
I think it’s worth noting that other legit stores selling Steam keys without the 30% cut happens purely by Valve’s grace and not by any contractual agreement. If they turn this off tomorrow without warning, I assume several storefronts fold pretty quickly.

Paying to get games to appear on your store is great. Paying to remove games from other stores is not something I can be okay with. In a world of rampant capitalism, a hugely rich company doing something like this makes me very wary.

So the gist is you wanted to get gamers mad at Valve, but now that gamers are mad at you for screwing them repeatedly, you have to explain yourself. We're not buying it. Sorry.
-
but that's not at all the gist? it's a pure numbers thing. his point is that the vocal people who actually care or get mad about this are a relatively small set statistically. seems like a lot to you since you're surrounded by it but the numbers speak for themselves.

You continue to push the lie that your goals are purely altruistic. In reality you use Fortnight money to bribe publishers to NOT release their games on Steam. This is not competition, EGS does not compete with Steam.
