Because that would allow backers to escape Epic by freeing the rewards they are owed from the hostage situation of only being delivered by Epic keys, and Timmy doesn't like that. Why do you think he's trying so hard to make it seem like giving Steam keys NOW is the only option?

Please provide context into Steam requiring a game be sold on Steam to offer Steam Keys "traps" a crowdfunded game on Steam. Are they prevented from activating via GOG or Itch explicitly? Please provide backing sources for the answer, not just your personal anecdotes.

By “traps”, I just mean: requires that the game be distributed on Steam, ruling out any funding opportunity associated with exclusivity or preferential terms that might “disadvantage Steam customers”, whatever that insanely broad language might be interpreted to mean.

There you go spreading this old lie that the publisher keeps all of the money. That’s not how publishing works.

Strange, the only store trapping crowdfunded games is epic, not steam

Strange, as far as I know there's only one person here unilaterally changing things for those who already backed a game, and that's not Gabe Newell. Also, if you think companies must give benefits to publishers who chose not to do business with them, you're dumber than you look.

Tim, Steam only requires that the game is launched on Steam to provide keys. This is a very reasonable thing require if you want to use the store's infraestructure and I am 100% sure you knows that but decide to ignore that fact.
