Why are you on board with this those other peons that don't use an 18% revenue split?

Hmm, this is a big if but if Epic Game Store appears on GOG Galaxy, the 18% revenue split still applies.

Epic is hoping that the competition in the game store space will lead the other stores into reducing their revenue split. Think they are open with that aim.

The authors of a creative work have an unquestionable right to decide what to do with it. If they choose (or they delegate the decision to a publisher who chooses) to release on a store that pays them significantly more, that’s their right.

Both are fair competition. Developers value having certainty about their revenue from a game, and also value getting a large share of the revenue. These are business with lots of expenses and many mouths to feed.

How'd you feel if the largest & best store on PC started paying for exclusivity? Would you consider that 'fair competition'?

Steam’s the largest PC store and already has PC exclusives such as DOTA2, Counterstrike, and Portal. Valve has every right to make deals with developers and publishers to secure more exclusives, just as Apple, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, and Epic Games do!

I’d like to challenge critics to state what moral principle you feel is at stake. If it’s okay for one company to avoid the 30% Valve tax by selling exclusively through their own store, why is it wrong for multiple companies to work together to achieve the same goals?

Is escaping the 30% Steam tax a privilege reserved only for games made by powerful corporations? What moral principle prohibits smaller developers and publishers from making deals to get funding and lower 12% store fees, or prohibits Epic from offering them?

How they go about avoiding the Valve Tax is the issue, not that they want to do it. They didn't make the game in a vacuum. They had a kickstarter, they made agreements as to what form the game would take. There's no limitation in place that would make the change acceptable.

The Kickstarter situation is unfortunate. Epic is always supportive of partners fulfilling crowdfunding and pre-order campaigns on stores where they were offered. However, our understanding is that Steam only provides keys for games that are actively sold on Steam.

You'd have a point, Tim, if your store/launcher wasn't released vastly unfinished and remained that way 8 months after launch, giving consumers a vastly worse experience for the same price. If you actively take away benefits from consumers, you better expect backlash.

I guarantee if your store launched with everything necessary, such as cloud saves, profiles, an overlay, achievements, controller support and a goddamn shopping cart, you would be getting a lot less backlash.

Let’s make it clear, you and your epic games store’s real target is definitely not saving pc game industry, but to eliminate steam, so that you can build your own pc game empire, and monopoly the whole pc market. Your ultimate goal is nothing but money.

I hope you realize that Steam has been around for a long time and you can continue stealing 1-2 games from them but in the end with the f2p games and some games people "CHOOSE" to put on steam they basically gain 40 games an hour.
