The wrinkle is that Steam bundles a community ecosystem together with a storefront and 30% tax. So Epic’s robust competition for developers and publishers with 12% and exclusives can be misread as an attack on the Steam community, though we’re only contesting for the storefront.

To see that we aren’t aiming to divide communities, just look at Fortnite and Dauntless (interoperable across 7 platforms, with an Epic store on only 2), and Epic Online Services, which support all platforms and storefronts, with no mantatory Epic Games store entanglement.

Compare to Steam friends, for example. This social feature can only be used on PC/Mac, and only from games that are launched by the Steam client. These players are walled off from players on other stores and other platforms.

For an Epic Games store game to support Steam friends, the user would need to manually add it to their Steam library, then launch the game from the Steam client. Whereas the Epic Online Services friends system supports all platforms and stores.

You’ve changed the topic again! Re Steam friends importing, no data is or has ever been sent to Epic except after the user explicitly chooses to import Steam friends, and the data has always been limited to hashed friend ids.

This thread was about Satisfactory. GOG Galaxy’s plans sound awesome and this sort of multi-ecosystem interoperability is something we’d love to be a part of in the future. We’ve done some bits of this BTW - you can log into Epic with Epic/Xbox/PSN/Nintendo accounts.

correction this thread is about consumer choice and how they dont like it being taken away satisfactory sold 500K over a period of months where games on steam or gog have sold a over 2 million within the same period of time

Understood. Ultimately this is where we disagre. Epic isn’t onboard with this idea that developers or publishers or we have a moral obligation to sell games through a store that takes 30% when there’s a 12% alternative.

And I'm not on board with a company with extra money to throw around strong-arming consumers into using their inferior product if they want access to a game for the first 6-12 months. This is why gamers still like Valve and don't like Epic.

TIL, Strong arming is a pro consumer tactic, that devs seemingly back Tim Sweeney up for. Good to know that.

If only you cared about consumers as much you care about developers. You seemed to have forgotten we are part of the math. You could have made a store that encouraged us to use it ,not force. I'll be buying 2077 from GOG for example. I have the option to buy on steam but I won't.

CP2077 ain't even available for Preorder on Epic right now. Either Epic games are having a tantrum that CDPR doesn't want to sign an exclusive deal, or they don't want to be humiliated by the sales figures on GOG/Steam VS their store.

And with that kind of Revenue made off of 2mil copies it would easily fall under steams NEW POLICY(how many times do I have to bring this up) and it will be an 80/20 split.

While still paying 30% and 25% for the first 50 million, and then paying 20% for any sales made after 50 million, and yet 20% is still higher than 12%. Plus Valve's new tier system is a slap in the face to the indie developers.

Let's hope developers see that having 70% from a 30% charging storefront is better than getting 0% of a 12% charging storefront. and that the right thing to do is sell everywhere and let consumers decide. I'm here playing the games anyway, ones that i'd be happy to pay for.

What happens if Steam goes down to 12%? You lied about how Metro Exodus will be the last game with the exclusivity deal. yet the exclusivity deal continues to this day. How do we know if you're telling the truth about releasing the games onto Steam if they back down to 12%?

And that 12% alternative will consistently come up shorter than they would have made on steam otherwise. Its fine to get games on your platform, but this exclusivity stuff is dumb. All it does is push me to buy the console version (aka that other 30% tax)
