A correction to what I said in this article: The decision to bring Metro Exodus to the Epic Games store exclusively was made by the publisher, not developer 4A Games. We’re grateful for both groups’ support for a very successful launch!https://www.pcgamesinsider.biz/industry-icon/68839/exclusives-free-games-and-fortnite-behind-the-scenes-on-the-epic-games-store-strategy/ …

So direct question Tim: were you aware when you started defending exclusivity deals that it wasn't helping (most) developers and just making publishers richer? The idea that richer publishers = helps devs = better (+cheaper?) games doesn't actually work in reality, does it?
-
Developers who work with a publisher have an agreement on splitting the revenue from the game between them. So, a distribution deal that benefits a publisher should benefit the developer proportionately.

Theres a VAST difference from EA selling games IT MADE. And games it agreed to sell on the store. Does ORIGIN have ANY third party exclusives? SIms: FP, Apex: FP, BF: FP, Ect ect. Steam does the same thing. Dota and Artifact can only be downloaded on steam cause THEY MADE IT. 1/2

You did not make Metro exodus, or Borderlands 3, ect. So why are they exclusive? Imagine if someone like Bungie announced Destiny 3 and said it was gonna be exclusive to PS4 for one year cause sony gave them more money even tho it was ready for xbox? Imagine the uproar.

first party exclusives also change up the publisher/developer/store split. As Fortnite is on Epic the store is paying itself in the revenue split. The publisher owns the store and likely the developer. All damage/benefit is internal. Reaching outside the company is very different

That's hardly a fair comparison when Epic hasn't spent a cent on the games development. What you've paid isn't funding for a game that's already been made, it's a bribe to get greed focused publishers to flip customers the finger and take away their freedom of store choice.

Think of it this way, when
@Borderlands started development@2K would have already funded the game. All the money was already there for the devs to use. This would have been way before any exclusivity deal was made, and possibly even before the Epic store launched. 2/4 - 2 more replies

I'm curious if that will be the prevailing opinion at Epic when Tencent enters the market place as a direct competitor? The philosophy currently adopted by Epic is we can't organically compete so we will buy market share. Which if successful will further splinter the marketplace.
