I support everyone’s right to complain about tech industry stuff. Epic’s store, with exclusive games and a spartan feature set, is a fine target for ire. But please help separate facts and opinions from the lies about spyware and foreign control.https://www.usgamer.net/articles/the-epic-games-store-is-spyware-how-a-toxic-accusation-was-started-by-anti-chinese-sentiment …

I'd like the know your reason for starting the store. Is it the % of sales? Steam is a terrible piece of software but it just inconveniences us to have more launchers

The reason for the Epic Games store is a long story. It started as the launcher that we needed for distributing our games directly to customers, because we didn’t think Steam’s 30% or intermediation was fair.

The principles that led me to release the ZZT editor in 1991, and that led Epic to release the Unreal Engine to developers years later, in 2018 led to us deciding to open it up to developers, on terms that we’d have been happy with as a developer if they’d been offered to us.

The Epic Games store is really just the storefront component, running only on open platforms, of the much larger set of Epic Online Services, such as friends, cloud storage, and matchmaking, which are opening up to all developers across all 8 major platforms.

Stores are fine. Platforms divide players. Games using SteamWorks are basically exclusive to Steam. Are your services compatible with other stores or platforms like GOG? Can a game be on Epic Store using for example Galaxy Services? Stores don't mater if friends can play together

The Epic Games store is open to games powered by all engines. Developers are free to use whatever online services they prefer including SteamWorks. Epic’s online services are open to all games using any engine, any platform, and any store. See:https://dev.epicgames.com/en-US/services

Does the cloud storage part of it support user generated content in any more structured form? I mean "mod support".

Epic Online Service cloud storage supports general storage but isn’t specialized for mod support. Epic Games store support for mods is in development, see the store roadmap:https://trello.com/b/GXLc34hk/epic-games-store-roadmap …
