I support everyone’s right to complain about tech industry stuff. Epic’s store, with exclusive games and a spartan feature set, is a fine target for ire. But please help separate facts and opinions from the lies about spyware and foreign control.https://www.usgamer.net/articles/the-epic-games-store-is-spyware-how-a-toxic-accusation-was-started-by-anti-chinese-sentiment …

Its amazing how much misinfo about EGS there is, Ive been posting on youtube like mad trying to spread some truth. Fine to have a game only on one other store as long as its not EGS cuz thats "exclusive", gamers dont know the work involved in supporting Steam at a 30% cost to us!

Consumers drive the industry. Why do you think the video game market crashed in the late 70's/early 80's? Precisely because there wasn't enough interest but more than enough devs making games for the atari. Being anti-consumer pushes them away. 88% of 0 is still 0

Ive seen no evidence to suggest Valve deserves a publishers cut unless theyre the publisher!

That helps make YOUR game accessible to people who aren't fortunate enough to have a major currency as their country's currency. Take the costs of that, added to the cost of online storage, and the cost to run the servers, to have download servers, and it figures to a lot.

My game isnt going to be for everyone, accessibility typically tends to be staggered especially for indies as we cant localise to every language on initial release. Valves features do very little except for extra work in support for devs, less exposure too thx to $100 direct.

Do you really believe releasing a title on a platform completely surrounded by controversy is going to help the game get exposure? Not that Steam would help expose your game, but Epic's store should be a no go for the time being.

Considering the controversy is largely fabricated... Valve has done some for PC gaming but putting them on a pedestal for just being there when no one else was is weak. Theyve used the same lootbox mechanics as EA has and support third party gambling sites through their API.

Epic literally blamed PC players years ago, and yes it was Tim that said this, for their games not performing well and even went as far to call most of PC players pirates and literally casted aside PC gaming until Fortnite.

Interesting, didn't know about that last bit. Maybe the old threads throwing around lots of hate were right then? He came back because he saw $ signs.
