What developer freedom? The PUBLISHERS see your fat wad of cash and tell them to get in line and sign on the dotted line.

Developers own their work and have the right to decide how to publish it. When a developer chooses to sign with a publisher, they give the publisher that right in exchange for receiving some combination of funding and royalties.

Whichever party has the publishing rights typically does business with Valve or Epic. Sometimes that’s the developer, and sometimes it’s the publisher. They split the revenue between them however they have agreed.

Devolver has also expressed a bit of regret as well. In fact I haven't seen a happy developer yet that has signed exclusive to Epic

I don’t know what Devolver has said publicly or to us, but many, many Epic Games store exclusive devs and pubs have said privately to us that they are happy with their decision and firmly believe in the mission of changing 70/30 store economics.

Your tactics are doing the exact opposite. If you just signed games and sold them cheaper, helped the developers we'd all shop there willingly. This would all be a non issue

BL3 for example. Still 60 dollars even though its cheaper to publish it on EGS. Because all that's happening is the publishers pocketing the extra cash. We're still paying the same price as before.

That’s the crux of the store situation: the benefits of 12/88 start immediately for all devs and pubs who participate. The benefits for gamers take time, as better economics lead to some combination of reinvestment in development, lower prices, and profits.

I understand what you are trying to say but it's hard to believe when micro transactions, dlc, multiple season passes are getting out of control. I understand devs and publishers will seek more profit, it just seems at the end of the day the customer suffers for it.

I understand. The whole game business is struggling for a new foundation following the decline of retail and the rise of digital distribution. Unfortunately, mobile F2P games and “whale monetization” mechanics set a bad precedent that’s hard for big companies to unwind.

My point is, within the existing climate of the industry nobody gets benefit of the doubt. Saying that it will help game devs/publishers while paying for exclusivity that removes competition and features doesn't help but hurt the average gaming fan.
