He's not obtuse, he's a ceo. His goal is to make money. Not care about what's best for gaming or gamers.

That's pretty obvious. It's been on prominent display lately. All he cares about is money and a personal vendetta against Steam when EA and Activision and Bethesda have been raping this industry we're supposed to believe Valve is the big bad enemy.

PC even with a Steam monopoly where we had GOG and Humble and GreenMan and a thousand other companies to choose from was better off six months ago than it is now. PC gaming now feels like the goddamn cold war.

That's the thing. I believe we should have the freedom to choose. Even with the way the revenue structures are we all agree those need to change. If Epic wanted to be at the forefront and make that a big message I would be celebrating that. As long as they did it in their lane

What’s more fundamental, though? Developer freedom to choose which stores to sell on, or customer freedom to buy any product at any store? The first derives from the developer’s creative freedom and ownership of the works they create.

The “right to buy any product at any store” isn’t a principle of any known philosophy or economic theory. And it would directly contradict developer freedom, by forcing creators to sell their works through stores against their will, regardless of store terms.

Steam’s 30% cut versus Epic’s 12% cut is just one point on the spectrum. What if another store took 50%? Should developers have to sell through that store too? What about 90%?

The sad part here is you are targeting stores. But the publishers are getting away with highway robbery. obsidian made nothing off that exclusive deal. I know those guys. They are depressed over that deal. Publishers are taking way more than these stores and you don't even ccare

Developers who create games have the right to choose how to publish them. Some deal directly with stores. Others sign publishing deals, and receive some combination of funding and royalties in exchange for giving the publisher the right to determine how to publish their game.

That is how it should be but as I explained Outer Worlds didn't go that way. Obsidian made next to nothing on that deal. They had made that deal and that choice and were literally putting up Steam achievements up the day it was announced. That was not their choice
