You are also looking up the game list and timed played for those games. What does that have to do with linking a friends list?

That information may be in the Steam file, but the Epic Games launcher doesn’t parse that information and never sends it to Epic. The only information that is ever sent to Epic is hashed friend identifiers, and only when you explicitly import Steam friends.

If this is true how is that Sergey Galyonkin knew what percentage of Fortnite players have Steam installed and how many regularly use it?

Epic contracted VGM (a market research firm) to do a survey of Fortnite players on PC to understand a wide range of details of how they play games.

So according to this post https://metacouncil.com/threads/epic-game-store-spyware-tracking-and-you.766/#post-23902 … you started collecting Steam data in May of 2018, one month after Valve effectively killed Steamspy's ability to collect data. Is it a coincidence you started to collect Steam data at this time?

I’m still supposed to be! Where I disagree with y’all is this idea that all games must be available in all stores regardless of store policies and revenue-sharing terms. Competition between stores means competition to offer unique products, as with Netflix and Amazon.

Yeah, but cashing out developers is not competition? funneling data is competition? why not let the EPIC store stand on its own? Unreal Engine became as big as it did because you let it grow and brought features that others didn't. You never forced people to use it.

Surely offering developers a better deal than competing stores is fair competition, and timing and guarantees of revenue are a big part of that in addition to revenue share.

And we believe that games are the valuable commodity here, not stores or store features. Customers who want a particular game will go to a new store to buy it, but won’t switch to a new store just because it has new features. Steam has plenty of features.

In the world of digital market places, the store and store features absolutely matter for a consumer to make a choice, if it's an epic published game then that's fine but for 3rd party games you stack up against the features of each store. Don't hold commodities in walled stores?

There are many good games on Steam. I can play them while I wait for exclusivity deal to expire. Games are a valuable commodity here, but it's feature set of a store that matters to me when I decide to purchase a game on one store or the other.

You want to make me, as a customer, _want_ to buy the game on your store, not force me to. You will not win customers by force. Steam didn't become dominating platform on PC by force.
