So @TimSweeneyEpic... Are exclusives ok now if they benefit you? https://www.pcgamer.com/epic-ceo-tim-sweeney-pummels-microsofts-uwp-initiative/ … Or are you going to keep pretending you were talking about something different?

There I am criticizing Microsoft “curtailing users’ freedom to install full-featured PC software, and subverting the rights of developers and publishers to maintain a direct relationship with their customers”, not exclusives.

The whole thesis here is that stores should be free to compete, and gamers and developers should be free to use stores of their choosing, which is exactly what is happening here today.

I wanted to buy Metro Exodus on steam, which it was advertised to be released on. However someone didn't want me to, which must mean it was the developer, who got paid by you to do it. Which must mean you didn't want me to buy it where I wanted to. Which means you are a liar.

This is the result of stores competing for developers. Despite an early lead and being the presumed winner, Valve ultimately lost the competition for Metro Exodus, because they offered the developer a worse deal than Epic.

If we want more investment in development and better prices on games, stores are going to have to compete this way. If the existing market leader automatically got the rights the rights to all games, then they’d take 30% forever and the competition would continue to fail.

Of course we launched with fewer features than Steam and have to do a lot of work to catch up. But even if we’d launched with more features than Steam, that wouldn’t be enough to compete successfully with a dominant storefront that earns 5x more profit per sale than we do.
