So @TimSweeneyEpic... Are exclusives ok now if they benefit you? https://www.pcgamer.com/epic-ceo-tim-sweeney-pummels-microsofts-uwp-initiative/ … Or are you going to keep pretending you were talking about something different?

There I am criticizing Microsoft “curtailing users’ freedom to install full-featured PC software, and subverting the rights of developers and publishers to maintain a direct relationship with their customers”, not exclusives.

The whole thesis here is that stores should be free to compete, and gamers and developers should be free to use stores of their choosing, which is exactly what is happening here today.

I wanted to buy Metro Exodus on steam, which it was advertised to be released on. However someone didn't want me to, which must mean it was the developer, who got paid by you to do it. Which must mean you didn't want me to buy it where I wanted to. Which means you are a liar.

This is the result of stores competing for developers. Despite an early lead and being the presumed winner, Valve ultimately lost the competition for Metro Exodus, because they offered the developer a worse deal than Epic.

If we want more investment in development and better prices on games, stores are going to have to compete this way. If the existing market leader automatically got the rights the rights to all games, then they’d take 30% forever and the competition would continue to fail.

Of course we launched with fewer features than Steam and have to do a lot of work to catch up. But even if we’d launched with more features than Steam, that wouldn’t be enough to compete successfully with a dominant storefront that earns 5x more profit per sale than we do.

This is ultimately nonsense from a consumer's perspective, since an additional monopoly that has exclusive games on it not because it's good but because it has financial backing is exactly the same problem as Steam has. tl;dr you played yourself

In what way is the Epic Games store a monopoly?

The prices on the Epic store aren't better. The only thing that improved is the profit margin for the publisher. The consumer gets fucked by an exclusivity deal, not being able to pick where to buy their game. You're a complete hypocrite.

"better prices on games"? by removing it from every other store and making it exclusive to yours, where it's actually more expensive? huh

Also, we had a better price before Metro Exodus became EGS exclusive. We already have amazing store competition for price already, because the 30% cut offers flexibility to stores to offer better prices on their cut, not the devs cut.

Nonsense, because Nintendo, Microsoft, & Sony all do the standard 30% that steam adopted. Let's not pretend that Steam is the big bad here and everyone else gets a pass

Better prices for yourself and the dev, the users does not get better prices, better quality games or features just the good old middle finger, bigger rifts between devs and community.

We, despite some peoples thinking it, don't live in a vacuum. A lot of games are not even bought on steam, simply redeemed there. There is more than just steam. You are now actually squelching those competitors as much as you are steam.
