EOS has grown to 4 tb in 8 months. Only 5 BPs are storing historic state, and none of them being compensated for this on standby, leading to downtimes for apps across the network. vvvvv Informative video below vvvvvhttps://twitter.com/EOSWeekly/status/1096549302804074501 …

1) I believe the original article was erroneous with stating 4TB in 8 months. 2) It's a problem because it's ultimately leads towards node ops becoming "more centralized" in the future - Ideally, the barrier-to-entry for running a full, validating node, should be low.

from the video - a full "archive node" is 3.5-5 tb EOS doesn't care about antifragile nodes serving a network - the whole value prop is scalability above all else, large scale block producers are privileged at its core. Individuals running nodes do not have a place w/in sys.

The main argument against this kind of growth rate for cryptocurrencies is that it tends to push them towards centralization. The SEC is signaling that decentralization is an important criteria for not running afoul of securities law.https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/dantedisparte/2018/06/19/when-it-comes-to-cryptocurrencies-to-the-sec-decentralization-is-key/amp/ …

If fewer people can afford to run full nodes (it’s not just the hard-drive cost, but also the cost of validating and participating in the network, plus the always-online requirements of Proof-of-Stake). This makes for a less robust network where it is harder to find peers.

I'm sure Facebook's data grows too, but that's not an issue provided they have an intelligent business model. http://dfuse.io archives everything, and with greater depth, even all those "WE LOVE BM", because we already live with the future in mind.

How much does it cost to have a profitable mining rig mining Bitcoin or Ethereum without joining a mining pool? It’s the cost of doing business, those who can’t afford to run a full history BP node will be replaced by those who can.

Does not account for the overhead of re-indexing after it inevitably needs to restart.. Ever tried reindexing 4 tb of data (even on fast hardware?) takes days.
