It's like a simple lambda calculus evaluator on a tree of terms, higher level and more pure than a bytecode VM.
My understanding of the nuances of the cast operator isn't as strong as it should be, but why do you prefer using sequentially ordered conditionals to branch to the type-dependent blocks instead of virtual functions on future that can be dispatched by m.eval(result, stack)?
That would be more efficient. Currently this code is optimized for fast iterative changes rather than performance, so changing the function signature and copying and pasting it in a bunch of places would be worse.
