My definition: On an open platform, users are free install software from any source they choose, and developers are free to reach users and engage in commerce directly.

How so? Surely competition between stores is healthy, especially when it results in significant savings for developers (30% vs 12%), which can then be reinvested in future games or passed on to gamers.

The race to the bottom we’re combatting is the trend of stores and user acquisition platforms (like paid store ads, Facebook, and Google) consuming a large and growing portion of game revenue, leaving developers with ever less.

For many PC games, the store earns more profit than the developers. It’s worse on iOS and Android where the store takes 30% than sells ads in front of products, taking another 10-20%.
