There I am criticizing Microsoft “curtailing users’ freedom to install full-featured PC software, and subverting the rights of developers and publishers to maintain a direct relationship with their customers”, not exclusives.

The Subtitle of your answer is exclusives are good. My opinion is competition is very important but walling things apart encourage the wrong type of competition. You should want to compete on pricing not on access.

Steam has veto power over prices, so if a multi-store developer wishes to sell their game for a lower price on the Epic Games store than Steam, then: 1) Valve can simply say “no” 2) Pricing disparity would likely anger Steam users, leading to review bombing, etc

Being dishonest again. Being in this industry for years you should know very well that price parity clause for games that are not exclusives is a standard across basically all digital stores and retailers. You say "Steam does that" and you omit "as everyone else".

Price parity? More like price fixing. A despicable aspect of this industry. This is against the core idea of free market. Imagine all retail stories doing it. It would be insane, like in a communist country.

Funny you mention it that since retailers do in fact require price parity as well, which is the main reason "digital copies" were never cheaper. It's not a hard concept to grasp: "if my own service and other N stores are getting a game, I don't want to be the sucker among them".

I am not sure why you mean when you mention consummers will get sucker when there is price disparity, when price wars are the cornerstone of a free market. I think been sucker aligns better with price fixing, and price fixing is anti consumer.

It's not hard to grasp, really: if you manage a store, you don't want your partner in business to treat you like garbage and play you like the fool while offering far better deals to other stores.

If the dominant store has a price parity clause, and takes a much higher revenue share than competitors, then the only way for creators to pass savings on to gamers is by avoiding the dominant store. That’s what this is ultimately about!

Valve’s public reference to Steam *key* price parity is on https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/keys …. Any competing digital *store* price parity terms are not publicly disclosed and we have heard different things about the situation from different developers. Maybe Valve will clarify.pic.twitter.com/5XJwCFXcDd

i'm aware of this, this is the "getting started" documentation and not the agreement , your wording with "clause"etc make it seem like that, but this is merely a suggestion. About the "different things" any articles etc about that? but there already egs of games with diff pricing

I mean when agree to be featured on a store, there is usually a provision that if you offer the game at a lower base price elsewhere, you must match it on the store.

The best you can do Tim is to make it clear to players and developers that using steam will limit their control in pricing their product. Reputations will ultimately dictate users and developers loyalty.
