I’ve been following this very closely and understand that people who prefer to buy games on Steam prefer not to deal with a second store. But developers will never escape Steam’s 300% to 500% markup on operating costs if all games are on Steam at equal prices.

How so? We process Fortnite payments and pay for CDN bandwidth and customer service. This costs 5-8% combined in most territories. So a store charging 30% is marking up that cost by 300-500%. Please elaborate if you have conflicting data.

So why are you charging people extra processor fees that no other store does?

You still haven’t answered my question. Why do you charge the consumer for payment methods no one else charges their consumers for?

Different stores handle unusual payments in different ways. For example, Apple sets higher store fees (sometimes well above 30%) for all transactions in territories with higher overhead payment methods, even when customers use more efficient methods.

we are not talking about Apple, we are talking about the Epic Store and it’s competitors with regards to consumers paying your fees

Epic adds a payment processing fee to the high-overhead international payment methods marked with asterisks in the hyperlinked chart above because it’s the only practicable way to operate a 12% fee store in those developing countries. Why Valve takes 30% everywhere I do not know.

So you admit you are pushing off payment to consumers because you only take 12% and you don’t see that as a problem?

The full terms of the store are described on the “about” page hyperlinked above, which fully disclosed the list of supported payment methods and the international payment methods carrying surcharges.

That’s a laugh, it’s fine to overcharge poorer nations because we tell you this ahead of time.
