The search term for the brand you invested years to build? That’s no longer yours, it’s Google’s or Apple’s to sell to the highest bidder. Your indie game? We’ll see! Your location? Now AT&T owns that. Your private online history? Facebook, Google, and dozens of ad vendors.

Along those lines, how do you feel about workers unionising to collectively lobby for better worker's rights?
-
I support everyone’s right to advocate for their rights, alone or together, but I don’t endorse granting any form of monopoly on such advocacy. Each individual should be free to decide what efforts they want to participate in.

We also need more consumer rights for digital goods. So even if it's delisted, removed, the consumer still owns the product they paid for. Games that were online only, now only table coasters. Because the servers closed. Even though a decent chunk had offline content.

Yes I agree. Unfortunately the only kind of treaty that has succeeded is price fixing, which is usually illegal and certainly detrimental to the consumer.

what sort of power dynamic do you suggest as basis for such treaties? if you dig deeply enough, most treaties between countries are based on the implied threat of war. also: don't you count patent exchanges as treaties? i would.

Standards are one form of treaty, but tend to more on the tech side (necessary but insufficient). There are also things like labelling programs, certification marks, etc (Fair Trade, organic, etc). Agree there's loads of room for such things in gaming and tech.

I would love to see standards around privacy, harassment and addiction in gaming
