Yeah, the "__CheckForDebuggerJustMyCode" bit is a nasty bug that regressed debug perf for us by like 60%. I sent them a repro a few months ago but haven't heard back on whether they looked at it. Crucially, it compounds with the default /RTC1 since it defeats "simple fn" check

My take is that /JMC is a very crude workaround for the fact that MS STL impl for some reason tends to have way deeper callstacks (all trivially inline-able... if inlining is on) compared to other STL impls.

With allegedly much simpler implementations that should be possible? e.g.https://gist.github.com/zeux/bc4ec25e1527a6c69021925b13b11586 …

It warms my heart to see a vector implementation that uses raw pointers as iterators. 👍👍👍

Not irony. I would very much like vector<T>::iterator to be T*. Keep it simple.

I'm still thinking about a way to identify ContiguousIterator without tags...

It's a runtime semantic requirement so tags are your only option. Just like input vs. forward iterators.

Something along the line of "convertible to T*"

Okay but then you fail for vector and string iterators (and the like)

Hand wavy solution: perhaps the compiler should enforce not being able to call push_back when in a foreach loop over the vector

But there are plenty of situations where that's valid.
