Current multiplayer developers use two very different transaction frameworks: slow but robust revision control for code, and very loose but fast networking protocols for game state interchange. The need for global transaction consistency will force these to converge.https://twitter.com/TimSweeneyEpic/status/1076229994018422787 …

The four hard problems any Metaverse framework will have to solve are transactions, data persistence, code isolation, and forward compatible code evolution. And it will have to solve them at vast scales of concurrency. Nothing even remotely resembling this exists yet.

Again, I've long felt that this is one of the advantages the web has going for it - we've been dealing with global transaction consistency at massive scales, and built many tools to make it work. Much of that infrastructure can replace/augment traditional game server architecture

Please point me to the global transactional consistency at massive scales on the web!

This concept is fundamental to providing persistent online services at large scale, and many projects like Cassandra, BigTable, MongoDB, etc. have been created to solve it on the back end. Now they're packaged up and sold as cloud services which many apps rely on as well

If you're looking for specific names of companies which use those technologies to provide realtime global transactional consistency to billions of users using a web stack we've got Facebook, Google, Amazon, Uber...include Redis and you've got Twitter, Snapchat, and many more
