      The four hard problems any Metaverse framework will have to solve are transactions, data persistence, code isolation, and forward compatible code evolution. And it will have to solve them at vast scales of concurrency. Nothing even remotely resembling this exists yet.

      Four hard *technical* problems, anyway. There's a host of additional hard problems to do with people using such a thing, that then create their own additional hard tech issues.

      Agreed. The core problem of systems in the shape of the metaverse is how to avoid it being a hellscape of corporate and governmental intrusion in which the astroturf botnets that can yell the loudest dominate every public space.

      The only proven way to avoid the hellscape is to design the experience to predominantly take place in small groups where people have enough connections for reputations and trust to develop.

          But virtually all commonly described use cases rely on aggregation of large volumes of data: layers of geoannotations for every square inch, object histories, etc. Large data stores will be a major center of gravity for any design, hard to avoid.
