The four hard problems any Metaverse framework will have to solve are transactions, data persistence, code isolation, and forward compatible code evolution. And it will have to solve them at vast scales of concurrency. Nothing even remotely resembling this exists yet.

I think you can create a metaverse in a browser with 3D
Each page is transient and in control of 100% of its code. I consider that to be one of the strengths of that design. The content is interoperable in that I can go from one piece of content to the next. -
Entire worlds can live within a single webpage. Contiguous worlds with zero loading screens are within the realm of possibility on the web, but not something I think we should immediately aim for or be required to have for a successful metaverse.
