The four hard problems any Metaverse framework will have to solve are transactions, data persistence, code isolation, and forward compatible code evolution. And it will have to solve them at vast scales of concurrency. Nothing even remotely resembling this exists yet.

In that world, a framework fails of one user object is able to break the system as a whole, because that breakage persists and affects all users. Thus I think we need something quite robust.

the internet has these issues for sure (DDOS attacks..). it's relatively robust though.

Not sure I agree that persistence and interoperability of user created components is a requirement for all metaverses. Why can’t the metaverse just be a web of connected and traversable worlds, each with its own rules? Who gets to define what the metaverse is and isn’t?

If content isn’t interoperable, then you essentially have a web browser with 3D, or Steam with teleporters instead of store pages. Not a new medium, just an awkward UI for the current one.

We've been discussing exactly these concepts at the VRBA (an open monthly meetup between makers of several virtual world platforms) - interop is key, and I believe the web is still a much stronger contender than you think! Would love to have you join us at next month's meeting?
