The four hard problems any Metaverse framework will have to solve are transactions, data persistence, code isolation, and forward compatible code evolution. And it will have to solve them at vast scales of concurrency. Nothing even remotely resembling this exists yet.

Oh, I've to put that paper into my holyday reading folder. I'm currently pondering forward compatible schema evolution myself. However not in the context of Metaverses, but the task of preserving years of scientific measurements, while respecting the advancments in methodology.
