I want to throw my vote in for “trunk” as a replacement for master. “Main” and “default” imply this is where most development happens (probably shouldn’t do that, use branches!), and “latest” can be confusing as one may think it’s the latest release or matches latest tag in npm.
Yet the temporal topology of a source repository isn’t a tree. Branches are often merged back into the thingy from which they branched.

I wonder if the data structure of version control branches and merges has a name. It’s a fully connected rooted directed graph that lacks directed cycles. It’s at least a meet-semilattice...
