Jill of the Jungle was 100% my code. I recruited animator Joe Hitchens and artist John Pallett Plowright to create artwork. The leap to 3D was helped by Michael Abrash’s articles and chats with Billy Zelsnack.

for a small team to create another 3D game engine sounds like a silly move nowadays, but would you still recommend it from a learning purpose point of view? 'cuz it takes a lot of effort to have anything slightly decent on screen.

It’s a great learning project, especially if you are building a game where you can focus on just a few engine features.
