Is this really a big deal though? Mitigation is to ensure hypethreads on a core belong to the same process and, in the case of in-process untrusted code execution, not allow both fine-grained timing and hypethreading to coexist.

Any architecture with any timing dependent on activity of other processes has a side channel, whether it’s caches, LAN, or the Internet itself.
