Definitely. You mean the movement component or player controller? The controller can be used as a black box, while the movement component needs to be understood. I wrote my own movement using network facilities, and did so with lots of control and simplicity.

Agreed. Definitely UE4 has had this nailed for some time. It was one of the reasons we learnt the platform. Also I love how standardized the humanoid animation is in UE4. Standards are good IMHO.

The main thing holding us back with UE4 is that Android is still a second class citizen. With Unity we know that VR is supported fully and that they are the incumbent on Android. UE4 is much better now that the forward renderer is available so hopefully there is more progress.

If I may, the standout replication feature for me is the ability to nest structs and replicate a single variable to uniformly sync a state. My predictive physics system would be a mess without it.
