So the whole point is "fuck off Google services, we want the whole pie!"...

We estimate the actual cost of running the service to be 5-6% of revenue. A markup of 400% to 500% is excessive. What’s Amazon’s markup on physical goods, 5%?

And why don't you ditch iOS platform? Because you have no alternative. And until there will be an iOS which wins because Apple leaves no alternative and people let iOS take those kind of margins does this make sense? The outcome of such decision is a let down to Android's users.

I never understood the line of reasoning that since one giant tech company blocks all competing software stores, that we ought to give all of the other giant tech companies 30% of OUR revenue out of “fairness”.

Yeah...the same 30% you ask for your engine if someone gets more revenues. If it's not about fairness don't even post such arcticles. 2 weights and 2 measures is not how to make things work for developers.

Unreal Engine revenue share is 5% of gross.

Any chance of making it 5% of net? I think 5% of gross is fair but for indies it's a tough sell. Reducing it a bit would bite into Unity where, let's face it, being completely "free" is a major selling point and why they have more marketshare right now. N.B. I prefer Unreal.

Hey Tim, why not make an Unreal-engine based app store? That charges, say, 10% instead of Steam's 30%? All the other smaller PC game stores charge 30%, that's what I find so frustrating in this industry. It's often the difference between staying afloat or going back to a day job.

There’s the Unreal Engine Marketplace for content at 12%: https://variety.com/2018/gaming/news/unreal-engine-88-share-creators-1202871375/ … Re percentage of net, we are open to negotiating that terms in custom license deals where we know the specific publishing terms, but net is too nebulous a term for the general EULA.
