We estimate the actual cost of running the service to be 5-6% of revenue. A markup of 400% to 500% is excessive. What’s Amazon’s markup on physical goods, 5%?

Are you unfamiliar with the concept of using a highly profitable venture to fund very expensive ventures with high potential? Amazon uses AWS to pay for almost everything else they have that is cheap.

What’s Amazon’s markup on the cost of buying and running physical server hardware, maybe 30%? Cloud hosting is a super competitive market, unlike smartphone app stores, which markup their actual cost by 400-500%.
