So is the implication that maybe Microsoft will stick these obstruction screens in front of apps users have chosen to install, and make users or devs pay them to remove them? Bleh!

Yea, I hate this, too. I think the OS should be left alone and just disappear in the background leaving the user to get work done. I guess their thing now is "the OS is free, but we'll use it to get $$ from selling services like cloud storage, Office 365, etc.".

… on a consumption tablet, like the Kindle, it's not as big a problem to do this.
